Family Council

Today I really enjoyed our family council. We started with a simple lesson on gratitude, and that was supposed to lead us to have a conversation about donations and serving others and Christmas…

At one point I somehow asked the kids if they thought I should get a drum set for Christmas (the kids all said yes to that, by the way). Jackson said, yeah, then we should get a keyboard for Parker, and we laughed because Parker already has a keyboard. And Jackson said he could get an electric guitar and then Elly said she could play her trumpet and then Elly said “mom can just look pretty” and everyone laughed. Then I made the comparison to when we dressed up like Harry Potter and everyone was a character and Sarah just had a tshirt that said, Muggle. And Sarah laughed and said that it wasn’t fair because she doesn’t play an instrument and doesn’t like math and doesn’t read Harry Potter books and was never part of the club. And by this time we were all laughing so hard.

And then my eyes glanced at Sarah’s phone because she was doing something on it, and she noticed that my eyes glanced at it so she kind of turned away. Then I asked loudly what she was doing on her phone and she started laughing and said I sounded like Dwight Schrute from the office. So then I knew something was going on and I demanded to know what she was hiding on her phone. Elly came over to her phone and saw that Sarah was writing on her list of “Hobbies Danny wants to start” and Sarah told everyone and everyone was laughing so hard because she was writing down that I wanted to play the drums and that there was something else today I said I wanted to start doing and Parker remembered that it was to build squirrel houses. And everyone was laughing so hard. Sarah said one day I would retire and wouldn’t know what to do with my life so she is glad she is keeping all these great ideas for me so she can tell me what I want to do when I retire.
