Daylight Savings

I am sitting in my family room on a quiet Sunday morning. It’s 8:30am, but to everyone it feels like 7:30am because Daylight savings has begun. 7:30am means everyone is sleeping.

This morning I read about St. Benedict, who’s “view of the spiritual life began with the awareness of the presence of God rather than a lifelong jousting for God as a prize to be won – to be merited – by practicing so many religious devotions. Instead, he saw the ladder to heaven topped not by “winning God,” but by human beings treating one another as human beings.

I think this is how I want to live my life. Instead of putting all of my spiritual efforts into winning God, I want to put my spiritual efforts into helping us treat one another as human beings of worth.
