Sometimes when it was snowing we would take the kids for snowshoe hikes around the golf course. We bought them snowshoes one year for Christmas for this. I think our kids have always loved playing in the snow. Somehow they don’t feel the bitter bite of the cold as children.
This was a comedy show we went to with Ryan Hamilton. A bunch of people from the ward went out to eat beforehand and then we went to the comedy show. It was a lot of fun.
In Belvidere the high school brought in a “Harlem Wizards” team – which is like the JV Harlem Globetrotters. I got to be in the game, so the kids came out to see me.
Sometimes when we would go to IKEA and the kids were too big to go to the play place but too little to just walk around with us without getting bored, we would give them a camera and tell them they had to take pictures of us without us seeing them. They thought it was so much fun. And then when we would see them sometimes we would make a big deal out of it. They would be so proud of all the pictures they took of us without us knowing.
When Elly was little she knew Sarah had donated her hair to Locks of Love for cancer patients and she wanted to be like her mom…so she cut her hair and donated it. We were so proud of her sweet, kind heart.
I always loved going to daddy-daughter dances with Elly. We would go out to eat at a restaurant of her choice (usually Culver’s) and we’d end up meeting mom at the dance (since Sarah was always helping set them up). My goal was always to get in the yearbook dancing.
One time the kids made $75 selling lemonade at the golf course!
For their birthdays, the boys would love going to The Sugar Factor and splitting this big ice cream platter and trying to eat the whole thing by themselves.
This Christmas the Nuttle’s shared some of their Polar Express tickets with us. It was fun – it was in Chicago and it was like a pretend adventure.
